International Students Joined Forest Education in P-WEC




Caretaker of Environment International (CEI)

On 6 July 2010, 50 students and teachers who concern for environment joined the forest education program held by P-WEC. Participants who came from Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, England, Portugal, Greece, Hong Kong, and, not to mention, Indonesia, followed the Caretaker of Environment International (CEI) which one of its field trips was held in P-WEC.

P-WEC took the participants to Cangar Forest to know the biodiversity of the tropical rain forest in Java. They tripped to the forest to learn about the wildlife and plants there. Most participants who came from Europe were amazed by the nature in Cangar Forest. They were excited to see some groups of the endangered Javan langurs that jumping from branch to other branches on the trees.

The event was designed for the participants to enjoy the nature as well as culture of Java. After trekking, participants had lunch break in the middle of the forest while enjoying the beautiful nature of it. In the evening, the traditional menus were then continued with the traditional shows held near P-WEC center, which is surrounded by traditional and natural villages.

On of the villages is Sumberbendo. The village still holds and practices traditional beliefs and rituals. The CEI participants were given the opportunity to watch and follow some of those traditional rituals and ceremonies: martial arts, folk games, and many more. They were also allowed to join the shows. All participants did have fun following the forest education and culture shows presented by P-WEC.
